Moin, I am Jonas

Tech, honest — and with a cold Mate.

I am not an anonymous service provider and not a faceless agency. I am Jonas — obsessed with detail, with a fondness for honest work and a pinch of humour. I tell you when something is nonsense and propose what makes sense instead. Rather ten times no than one half-baked yes.

Demecan GmbH

Custom payment plugin & API architecture for telemedicine

Senior web development · since 05/2024

For the special requirements of the telemedicine market, standard solutions were not enough. For Demecan I developed a fully custom payment plugin that goes beyond conventional checkout logic and offers an integrated PayByLink feature. In parallel, the API architecture for the secure transmission of prescriptions and orders as well as the connection of courier services (Lieferando) was implemented.

  • Custom payment development: complete in-house development of a payment plugin for Shopware 6.

  • PayByLink technology: implementation of a flexible PayByLink solution for manual or delayed payment processes.

  • API design: strategic consulting and implementation of secure interfaces for medical data.

  • Logistics automation: seamless integration of Lieferando for automated courier deliveries.

The honest answers

What managing directors ask me most often

most frequently ask Honest answers about costs, response times and collaboration — so you know what you are getting into before we talk.

What does a freelance Shopware developer cost per hour?

My hourly rate is — depending on project and scope — between €110 and €140 net. I name the concrete figure right after the free 30-minute strategy call. I mostly work on a fixed-price basis or with clearly defined sprint packages — not on an open-ended hourly bill.

More important than the hourly rate is the ROI: for clients like KRAFT GmbH I reduced the running costs by up to 75% through smart infrastructure optimisation — that justifies any hourly rate within a few months.

How quickly are you available in a Shopware emergency?

On weekdays I usually handle emergencies within 60 minutes of the report, at weekends and on public holidays within about 4 hours. The fastest way to reach me is the emergency number or notfall@jocad.dev. As a first step, send: shop URL, a short error description, hosting access (if available).

Do you work remotely or only on site in Oldenburg?

I work flexibly — my locations are Oldenburg and Bremen, and I am active across the entire DACH region. Digital collaboration is well practised through mandates with clients in Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt: regular Loom updates, clear async communication, short calls when needed. On-site appointments are possible — typically kick-off workshops or discovery days in or around Oldenburg and Bremen.

What is the difference between an agency and a Shopware freelancer?

With me you talk directly to the senior developer who also builds the API design, the backend and the custom plugins — no project manager, no junior in the engine room. That saves coordination loops and costs. I am Jonas — you always have one fixed contact person. I am less suitable if you need design, SEO, content and development from a single source at the same time — then an agency is a better fit.

How do you ensure the quality and stability of your work?

Security and stability come first for me. I rely on modern CI/CD pipelines (Git) to guarantee automated and smooth deployments without manual sources of error. I also work strictly to current Shopware standards — in the backend (PHP 8, Symfony, MySQL) as in the frontend (VueJS, Twig). That keeps your system not only highly performant, but also update-safe and maintainable in the long term.

What sets your hosting setup apart from standard solutions?

I do not get stuck in rigid standard packages. Instead, I optimise your existing managed hosting with targeted infrastructure extensions such as Redis, RabbitMQ and ElasticSearch. By offloading media assets to S3 storage and using a dedicated ImgProxy service, I achieve performance figures far above the market average — and your monthly costs can drop massively (at KRAFT: −75%, +50% performance).

Do you also build interfaces to third-party systems (ERP, API)?

Absolutely. One of my focus areas is API development and the integration of complex external systems. Whether ERP systems, telemedicine services for sensitive prescription transmissions or the connection of courier services like Lieferando — I design and build stable interfaces that fully automate your business processes. Absolutely reliable even at high load peaks.

Do you develop custom plugins or do you use store solutions?

I advise you honestly: often an existing store plugin is the most economical solution. However, if your requirements are highly specific — such as a custom payment plugin with a PayByLink feature or complex, country-dependent freight cost calculations — I develop tailor-made plugins directly to Shopware standards. My goal is code quality that maps your business model one to one without bloating the system unnecessarily.

Do you also do migrations from Shopware 5 to Shopware 6?

Yes. I support migrations from Shopware 5 to Shopware 6 — from data transfer and the redevelopment of custom plugins to the technical go-live. Typical projects take between 6 and 14 weeks, depending on shop complexity. A current example: Motorsport Dietrich — including a reseller interface and a complete infrastructure setup (Redis, RabbitMQ).

Do you also work as a white-label partner for agencies?

Yes — I regularly take on the technical Shopware implementation for design and marketing agencies. Either invisibly in the background or in direct contact with their end clients, as desired. NDA goes without saying.

Honesty first

When does the collaboration fit — and when not?

I would rather say no than make a client unhappy. So, very clearly:

✓ A good fit if you…

  • have a productive Shopware 6 shop and need real technical depth in performance, APIs or infrastructure.

  • want fast reactions & direct communication with the developer.

  • are looking for someone who does not just install plugins but automates processes through custom development.

  • run an agency and are looking for a senior developer at eye level who takes projects to go-live on his own responsibility.

→ Probably not a fit if…

  • you run a Shopify or WooCommerce shop — I know others who are a better fit here.

  • you need pure design, SEO or content work without development.

  • you expect unrealistic fixed prices without a clearly defined scope — quality needs a fair framework.

  • you are looking for the cheapest provider instead of the most stable solution for your business.

  • you want five parallel projects started within four weeks.
